The new Bento restaurant at the Shoreline Plaza is the franchise’s first offering on Hobart’s eastern shore.
While the fit out stays true to original Bento brand of red, black and timber elements (established in the Harrington St and Moonah stores), here the black is allowed to shine, providing grounding to the natural light from the glass shop-front. Texture in the same tone is supplied by glossy black subway tiles, along with vertical battens that differentiate seating zones before folding onto the ceiling to create pattern play. Pops of bright red break up the darkness in the form of leather upholstery, while natural timber elements form the joinery of stools and benches.
The small retail outlet has been transformed into a multi-layered space to cater for a range of customers – from large groups to those dining alone – and the relatively restrained internal palette allows the mix of colours and ingredients of the sushi itself to be admired.
