Claire Austin wins 2019 NAWIC Award

13 Nov 2019

This week we were thrilled to see Senior Architect Claire Austin win the Contribution to a Project Award at the 2019 NAWIC Tasmania Awards.

Claire was recognised for her outstanding work as Project Architect and Superintendent on the 80 Elizabeth Street Accommodation project currently under construction in Hobart.

The ’80 E’ project has involved the adaptive reuse of a 1970’s commercial office building into a contemporary 72 room hotel. It’s one of the largest commercial buildings of this era to experience this type of modernisation in Tasmania. In working with limited precedent, this project has required significant innovation and problem solving, particularly on behalf of Claire working as Project Architect.

Claire’s award winning application included a glowing reference from VOS Project Manager Brendan Baynes, which clearly described her consistent, high quality work.

“This project has offered up plenty of challenges both architecturally and structurally as it has undergone a transformation from its previous use as Government offices to its new use as short stay accommodation,” said Mr Baynes.

At every stage of this project Claire has dealt with every issue that has arisen in a very professional manner. Her understanding of the building industry and the regulations that govern it, along with her infectious manner and people skills, make it an absolute pleasure to be working with her.”

Cumulus Studio would like to congratulate all award winners as well the team from NAWIC for organising such a fun, inclusive event out at Mona on Friday evening.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Awards for Excellence celebrate the many achievements of individuals and organisations, with an express focus on the advancement of women within the Australian Construction industry.
