Goulburn Street Housing Awarded two Tasmanian Architecture Awards
12 June 2022
Our project Goulburn Street Housing has been named winner in two categories at the 2022 Tasmanian Architecture Awards:
• Award for Urban Design
• Ray Heffernan Award for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing
The yearly awards are run by the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), which is is dedicated to the promotion of Australian architects and architecture in both national and global arenas.
Referring to Goulburn Street Housing's recent awards, AIA notes "This is a large multi residential development that successfully achieves its aim to sit comfortably within its much smaller residential context. This is achieved by careful consideration and use of local materiality and examples of fenestration approaches of nearby buildings utilised in new and playful ways. Each apartment, although necessarily modest in scale, feels larger than its floor area might suggest due to clever planning, and connection to its own private external space. The jury felt this was an excellent example of housing with dignity both the elderly and the disabled in much needed proximity to the city.”
We’re honoured to be recognised among so many incredible designs from across Tasmania. Congratulations to all the other winners.
