This weekend we were thrilled to receive the Alexander North Interior Architecture Award for our work on the former power tool workshop turned contemporary Japanese restaurant, Kosaten Launceston.

Kosaten Launceston is our second Tasmanian hospitality project for the Kosaten restaurant brand, expanding on the original ‘bullet train’ themed Salamanca establishment opened in 2016.

The 2019 judges cited the unique Kosaten dining experience as a key driver of the project’s success describing the interior as “a labyrinth of colour, light and sound.”

Our TasPorts Cruise Ship Shelter project was also recognised at the award presentation on Saturday night, receiving a commendation for Small Project Architecture.

In addition to a successful showing from Cumulus Studio, Associate Architect Liz Walsh was awarded for her independent work with partner Alex Nielsen, winning the Edith Emery Residential Architecture Award for their Sandy Bay Apartment, #TheBaeTas. Entering under the practice name workbylizandalex, the 2019 award follows the pair’s nationally recognised 19th century West Hobart barn conversion, #TheBarnTAS.
