As seen on the front page of the Examiner Newspaper last Friday, Cumulus Studio is currently working on a new state-of-the-art rowing precinct planned for Launceston’s North Esk River.

The new precinct commissioned by Rowing Tasmania will add to the transformation of the adjacent Riverbend Park – one of the first projects our team worked on as Cumulus Studio back in 2012.

The elite training facility will service over 1000 active rowers in Northern Tasmania, with leases already signed by the Tasmanian Institute of Sport, the Tasmanian University Boat Club.

With social rowers, junior competitors, dragon boat racers and world class athletes set to share the new facility, our design has taken into account a range of competing user needs.

Focusing on rower amenities and site context, the design references traditional boat shed forms as well as the (now demolished) woolstores that hold a prominent place in the history of the Launceston river edge.

The contemporary design will feature six high ceiling boathouses with individual change room facilities, as well as a shared gym and breakfast area. A shared apron also encourages rowers and spectators to socialise and grow as a community.

The precinct comes at an exciting time for Launceston waterside development, with Cumulus Studio projects including Riverbend Park and Stillwater Inn boutique accommodation soon to commence.
