This project involved the master plan and subsequent architectural design of a Garden Nursery and Visitor Facility at the Tesselaar Tulip Farm, situated in Victoria’s picturesque Dandenong Ranges. The initial feasibility design highlighted the necessity to situate the new development in a location that could balance its day to day function as a nursery, while supporting the ancillary functions of a festival entry during its long running Tesselaar Tulip Festival.

The proposal seeks to create an all-weather destination that can allow visitors to take in views of the established gardens, while also enhancing the experience of the tulip fields when viewed perched above the landscape in the nursery’s atrium. Architecturally the project takes its cues from the Tesselaar’s dutch heritage while remaining a highly contemporary statement that enables the natural environment of the location to remain the principal ‘celebration of colour’.
