River House
Subtle on approach, this two-storey, tiered home opens to reveal commanding views of the river, city and mountains beyond. Outside, a central courtyard creates a privacy buffer to the street and acts as an entertaining area with in-built barbeque facilities. Inside, bedrooms are discreetly hidden on the lower level while the upper level acts as a simple living pavilion opening to terrace spaces at the north and eastern edges.
While the North, East and West faces are glazed to maximise transparency, the southern facade is clad in Barestone (compressed cement sheeting) to provide privacy to the neighbouring house, with discrete ventilation panels detailed into the solid wall. The exterior is then finished with diffused tones and Western Australian limestone features – a sensitive material palette that complements the rocky, cliff edge at the foot of the property.
