Boag's Brewery opens new brewhouse in Launceston
The new brewhouse at Boag's Brewery in Launceston has officially opened, marking a major milestone for one of Tasmania's most visited destinations. We were proud to lead the design for this project.
Beer has been brewed on this site for almost 200 years, and Boag's itself has been part of Launceston for close to 145. Our approach was to honour that history while creating a venue that feels contemporary and welcoming. The design uses Tasmanian timber throughout, and brings together a new brewhouse hall, tasting area, redesigned beer garden and a relocated Boag's Museum - now more interactive and open to the public.
The project is a significant turnaround for the brewery. In 2023, tours were at risk of closing. With the support of the Tasmanian Government, the local community and a $1 million state grant, the site has been revitalised and new staff brought on to support the expansion.
Boag's is second only to the Cataract Gorge for tourism numbers in the region, and thousands more visitors are expected through the brewery each year as a result of the new facilities.
Brewery tours remain free for Tasmanians.
