Celebrating 10 Years of Pumphouse Point
For 20 years, a 1940s pumphouse had sat unoccupied on Lake St Clair, deep in the Tasmanian wilderness. In 2015, Pumphouse Point - the sensitive readaptation of two heritage-listed art deco buildings into an accommodation escape - welcomed its first guests.
This year, Pumphouse Point celebrates 10 years as a wilderness retreat, and it’s a privilege to think back on our involvement in bringing this audacious vision to life. With a focus on sustainability and minimal site impact, we constructed 18 new guest sites within the existing building envelopes, carefully repurposing the existing buildings in line with World Heritage Area best practice.
It’s gratifying to see that - one decade on - Pumphouse Point continues to be looked after, appreciated and enjoyed, enhancing this iconic property for generations to come.
