Cumulus Installation at Adelaide Design Week 2025

Recently, Cumulus Studio collaborated with LOC Bottle Bar to create Crimson Threads - a suspended ceiling installation exploring the intersection of architecture, craft, and South Australian wine culture.

Natural ropes, hand-dipped to evoke the deep, variegated stains of SA wines, form an overhead canopy that recalls vineyard rows and cellar intimacy. Each strand captures the pour, the swirl, and the lingering “legs” of wine - creating a space of warmth, ritual, and gathering.

LOC’s ethos of local, low-intervention craft guided our approach. Untreated rope and unrefined edges honour the raw beauty of both material and process, mirroring the honest, authentic experiences that define South Australian wine culture. The installation invites visitors to look up, slow down, and feel suspended in the moment - much like that first sip.

Part of the Shopfront Sprint program, Crimson Threads demonstrates how architecture can celebrate local culture through material storytelling and sensory experience.

Thank you to Adelaide Design Week every*where and LOC Bottle Bar for this inspiring collaboration.
