Fairbrother Foundation commits $1 million to Hobart Cancer Wellness Centre

The Fairbrother Foundation has pledged $1 million towards the Cancer Wellness Centre planned for Hobart - a project we are proud to be designing.
The $24 million facility, located at the former Theatre Royal Hotel near Royal Hobart Hospital, will provide emotional support, wellbeing programs and accommodation for cancer patients and their families - including those travelling from regional areas for treatment. It is a project centred on care at one of the most difficult times in a person's life.

The donation is a significant boost to the project, which has also received $10 million in state government funding. Construction is expected to begin this year, with the centre hoped to open in late 2027 or early 2028.

SHE chair Scott Harris described the contribution as a powerful vote of confidence. Fairbrother Group's Paul Ransley and Phil DeJong said the project would fill a gap that many families experience during cancer treatment - supporting people not just through clinical care, but through the emotional and practical challenges that come with it.

It is a meaningful project for our studio, and we look forward to sharing more as the design progresses.
