Fysh Place Wins 'Best Multi Dwelling Development' at the HIA Australian Greensmart Awards

Fysh Place, built by Zanetto builders, was recently recognised as the best Multi Dwelling Development at the HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards.

Fysh Place is a modest new home and studio for a retiring couple wanting to spend more time near the water with their family. The building forms and position on the site were designed to take in the big views of St Georges Bay, admit Northern Winter sun and allow the neighbours behind the site to maintain their views of the bay.

There was a rigorous position on sustainability on this project, recognised in the GreenSmart win. We adhered to the 'build less' mantra, with the main house size at 130sqm and the studio at 45sqm. Charred spotted gum timber cladding was used for its robust, low maintenance qualities and its low embodied carbon. The buildings use mechanical ventilation, double glazed high performance windows and doors, and passive solar design to create an efficient thermal envelope that mitigates internal condensation.

The interiors are simple and repetitive with colours reflective of the coastal setting. The design moves are restrained, making the most of the loft spaces for bedrooms under the skillion roofs of both houses.
