Queens Walk Housing in Architecture Au
Our Queens Walk Housing project in Hobart has been published on ArchitectureAU, with a detailed review by writer and UTAS academic Dr Helen Norrie.
The article explores how the project builds on the site's near 70-year history as a modernist social housing estate. Originally designed in 1958 as the Stainforth Court Housing Estate, the complex has long been regarded as an iconic gateway into Hobart. Our design for two new buildings and 65 apartments continues that architectural narrative while delivering contemporary amenity that, as the review notes, far exceeds the expectations of social housing.
Helen's piece traces the project from the original 1950s site planning through to our approach of designing the new buildings as a cluster of parts rather than solid, dominant forms - allowing transparency, visual connection to the revitalised green spaces, and a scale that sits comfortably within the city's landscape.
The project was developed for Housing Choices Tasmania in partnership with Homes Tasmania.
