A Hobart treasure, restored for future generations.
St Mary's Cathedral is a treasured Hobart landmark, designed by one of Australia's greatest 19th century architects, William Wardell.
More than a century after the Cathedral was first opened to the public, construction began on the Narthex (the western entrance area) in 2010. The Narthex, however, remained incomplete until 2015, when we were asked to join the project to finalise the basement 'crypt' storey.
The historical importance.
As the final resting place for past Archbishops of Hobart, we worked closely with our clients to ensure that the crypt was sympathetic to its unique purpose, and complemented the important historical building.
Commanding granite walls either side contain the crypts, with stone plaques allocated to the memories of past and future Archbishops.
