Stillwater Seven named one of Australia's best hotels

Concrete Playground has named Stillwater Seven among the best hotels in Australia, placing it alongside some of the country's most recognised hospitality destinations.

The guide rounds up standout properties across every state, from inner-city design hotels to off-grid coastal retreats. Tucked within the eaves of an 1830s flour mill on the Tamar River, the project was an exercise in restraint and reuse. The building had survived a major structural fire and nearly two centuries of exposure to the elements. That history became our starting point.

We worked to preserve what was already there. Original Oregon pine trusses, weathered corrugated iron, heritage sandstone. Bespoke furniture made by
Simon Ancher in his nearby Launceston studio. Custom beds from Hobart. Nothing that didn't belong.

The result is a stay that feels entirely of its place.

This bathroom features deep red walls and a large arched mirror with an integrated circular halo light. The vanity holds a black vessel sink and white towels, while a freestanding white bathtub is positioned in the foreground. A wooden bar cabinet features a black marble top and a mirrored backsplash reflecting glassware. It includes a small black refrigerator and open drawers filled with snacks and drinks. A sitting area in one of the Stillwater Seven suites, featuring an original Oregon pine beam, dark walls, a round table with a glass of red wine overlooking the Tamar River, and a grey upholstered chair.
This industrial-style bedroom features exposed timber beams across a grey ceiling and dark grey walls. A small seating area with two grey chairs and a round table is positioned by windows framed in natural wood, while the bed is accented with a grey velvet headboard.
