Our Launceston studio works across northern Tasmania, from the city's Georgian and Victorian building stock to new work in the Tamar Valley and along the north coast. We have been here long enough to know the buildings, the trades and the councils.
Building in Launceston
Launceston has one of the most intact nineteenth century centres in the country. Heritage here is rarely a single listed building. It is whole streets and precincts, which changes what a council will accept and how anything new has to behave next to what is already there.
The city also holds a stock of large, solid, underused buildings, and the most interesting work in Launceston is often about finding them a second life. Add the Tamar valley's cold air drainage and winter fog and orientation matters more here than the mild averages suggest.
How we work
We take projects from first site assessment through planning and documentation to contract administration on site. We would rather be there while it is built than hand over a set of drawings and step away.
Much of our northern work is adaptive reuse: museums, breweries, hospitality and workplaces inside buildings designed for something else entirely. Alongside that we do new houses, clinical fit outs, community buildings and projects across the Tamar and the north west coast.
