Building in Melbourne
Melbourne is a more regulated environment than the rest of our work. Planning schemes change street by street, neighbourhood character and overshadowing tests shape built form long before anything is drawn, and a project that ignores them usually meets them again at VCAT.
Sites are tight, titles are awkward, and what a neighbour can see and stands to lose genuinely matters. We resolve those questions in the first few weeks rather than the last, because in Victoria the planning path is often the longest part of the programme.
How we work
We are a smaller team in Melbourne than in Tasmania, and we treat that as the point. Projects get senior attention rather than being handed down, while drawing on the wider studio for review and technical resource when they need it.
Our Victorian work runs from houses and apartments through to hospitality, wineries and the adaptive reuse of significant older buildings, in the city and well beyond it.
