Bento Kingston

Kingston, Tasmania 2016

Same brand, new moves.

A year after completing the Hobart and Moonah fitouts, we returned to Bento Box for a third restaurant - this time in the Channel Court Shopping Centre in Kingston, one of Tasmania's fastest-growing regions. Our clients wanted to build on the strong brand identity we had established together, but they also wanted this interior to be distinctive in its own right. The challenge was to evolve the design language without breaking it.

Where the earlier fitouts relied on OSB texture and horizontal colour, the Kingston design took its cues from the shapes within Futago's existing Bento Box logo. Rectangular pegboard panels line the walls, punctuated by white triangles that add graphic contrast to the red and black palette. Circular dowels fixed to the pegboard support TV menu displays and pendant lighting, turning a functional surface into something playful. The horizontal stripes that define the brand are still present - this time wrapped through the counter and around into the backs of booth seating, connecting the identity across every surface. The key ingredients remain: texture, colour, energy and a space that feels like a good place to eat. But the recipe is distinctly Kingston's own.
